After 3 years of research, consulting masculinities experts, feminists, queers, clowns, migrants, Parteciparte has launched its new forum theatre on Masculinity. In this performance the audience is invited to intervene on stage and try new strategies to tackle violence at the root. From schools to funerals, from first love stories to separations how can men and boys change the traditional and oppressive scripts of manhood?
Big success in schools where scenes about approach, gang rape and porno culture, anger management, mourning were all very welcome. Adults and educators are happy to find a place to rehearse change and try new masculine scripts. After the first successes in Rome “uomini che provano” will start touring Italy.

The performance tells the challenges of Filippo, a boy struggling to get out of the hegemonic and caricatural masculinities. Chased by unlivable patterns and ridiculous stereotypes, he tries out new forms of relationships at school, with the girls and his friends. But the flock does not make his life easy. There is a high risk that Filippo does not succeed alone. Except if the audience steps into the scene…

Will the audience succeed in helping Filippo change relationships and get out of the oppressive cages of strength and virility? What challenges will they face? What alternatives will they propose in the game, in the girls’ conquest, in the adult relationship with the friends of a lifetime?
